“Most of the semester I felt like I was drowning, but this course was the straw with which I could get just enough air.”

“This was absolutely, with zero doubt, the most beneficial class for me as a reading teacher. My focus has shifted from seeing the many things my students cannot do yet…to looking at my students and what they can do now… It is hard to put into words, but I can feel a difference inside of me… Thank you for caring about all of your students, big (us) and small.”
J. Medina, 2019“Your class was always a place of safety and comfort throughout this semester, and I just want to personally thank you for being so kind and understanding with all of us throughout this sometimes-overwhelming program. You have truly been a source of kindness and light that I otherwise had not seen in this program.”
M. De La Cerda, 2024“I learned to look at our system and question why it is the way it is. I will use this information to help guide my teaching philosophy.”
T. Lee, 2020“Thank you for a semester of challenging my thought and helping me develop my own literacy philosophy… I am excited to grow my understanding as I teach and help my students grow as well!”
C. Riley, 2020“I want to thank you for this awesome semester with you in your class. I have learned to open my mind to new experiences and new perspectives. Again, thank you for broadening my horizons and knowledge.”
J. Pasternack, 2024“For the first time in this program, I felt like I had a professor who viewed me as an educational colleague. I have tried to model my communication with my students during this pandemic off of your example. Thank you for treating us like professionals and thank you for an excellent class.”
R. Tucker, 2020“Good morning, Dr. Low, I had the opportunity to teach for the STEAM program this week. I got to use some of the tactics you taught me. And look out for some of the things you helped me be aware of as a teacher. I wanted to share this video with you of a student who had trouble following directions in the beginning and not wanting to get involved, I looked at him in a different perspective and realized he was struggling with thinking of how to build this and he didn’t believe in himself. Instead of reprimanding him for not following directions, instead I offered my support to collaborate with him and build this awesome Marble Arcade. At the end I felt a connection with him and that he was now excited to be here because he had accomplished something big. He became very respectful and he willingly participates now. I’m thankful to have taken this class.”
E. Echeverria, 2022“I greatly appreciate the fact that you genuinely care about your students, and we are not just numbers or meat in the seat in your course. Your approach to instruction and attitude towards learning is so inviting and creates a learning environment where I am motivated to dive deeper into the topics and try to express my learning to a higher degree than I normally would… I hope I can create that sense of true motivation in my future students as you did in me.”
C. Monteiro, 2020“Professor Low has gone above and beyond to send us messages of support as we move through this period of a new normal together. He has modeled empathy, understanding and flexibility…all traits I hope to embody when I have a class of my own. I feel blessed to be enrolled in his class during this tumultuous moment in history.”
S Ray, 2020“Thank you for being such a great instructor… The flexibility of your class, your perspectives on grading and inclusion, and your open-mindedness to different perspectives resonated deeply with me. Even though we have never met in person, I would like to tell you that I’m so glad I took your class and that you are one of the best professors I’ve had.”
C. Stephenson, 2022“I would just like to say how much I enjoyed having you as a professor this semester. You are the only one I have who seemed to really understand and care about what students are going through right now, and I cannot tell you how much your support and positivity meant for me as I tried to wrap up this semester.”
L. Woolsey, 2020“Thank you for an amazing course that gave me the freedom to speak my mind and expand on what I could give to my students. It is a blessing to have professors such as yourself in the world.”
F. Alvarado-Ramos, 2022“I wanted to say how much I’ve appreciated your understanding and genuine compassion for us as students going through a fairly rigorous process of student teaching, working, completing class work, and all of our other obligations. I’ve not seen this approach from most other professors, and it has really made an impression on me as I move forward with teaching.”
J. Lara, 2022“I just wanted to say thank you for teaching LEE 109S. I didn’t realize it at the time, but I learned a lot… LEE 109S opened my eyes to a lot of things that would have otherwise gone unnoticed. When I am a teacher, I will consider the implications of the books, films, and songs I share with my class.”
R. Coates, 2021“Reflecting on the past semester in LEE 156, I wanted to express my heartfelt appreciation for the knowledge and opportunities you provided. Your engaging and approachable teaching style made the lessons memorable and enjoyable, and I genuinely value the intellectual engagement and levity that you fostered in class. The human and approachable content left a lasting impact on me. Unlike some past experiences, the memories from your class are fond and cherished. Having changed majors from chem engineering, I put some of those educational memories on the same level as the PTSD from working in the Paradise Fire as a medic. This semester was unique and enriching experience shared with wonderful people, even if only for a moment. As I move forward into my master's program, I carry the hope of finding another professor as passionate about learning as you are. Your dedication and enthusiasm have left a significant mark on my academic journey.”
